MID CENTURY MODERN FURNITURE DESIGNER- AKE FRIBYTTER
Åke Fribytter was a prominent Swedish designer known for his work in the mid-20th century. Born on December 8, 1917, and passing away on December 3, 1999, Fribytter made significant contributions to the field of modern, functional furniture design. He studied at the Stockholm School of Industrial Arts and began his career at the Swedish furniture company NK, where he honed his skills in creating modern, functional furniture.
During the 1950s and 1960s, Fribytter worked for the industrial design company Design AB, where he designed a range of products for companies like Fiskars, Electrolux, and Ericsson. He was also an active member of the Swedish functional design movement, known for its advocacy of simplicity and functionality in product design.
One of Fribytter’s most notable designs is the Kroken Lounge Chair, designed in 1974 and produced by the Swedish manufacturer Nelo Mobel. This chair is celebrated for its extraordinary design, combining excellent seating comfort with top-quality materials. Its unique feature is the leather seat suspended in a canvas sling, a testament to Fribytter’s innovative approach to design and comfort.
